ecoENERGY

we must act NOW

Why is urgent action required?

CanWEA is advocating for an expansion and extension of the ecoENERGY Renewable Power Program (eRPP) in a Fall economic statement such that it will support the deployment of an additional 8,000 MW of wind energy by March 31, 2014.

According to the Minister of Natural Resources, Lisa Raitt, all of the funding associated with this successful program is expected to be fully allocated before the end of 2009.

Obama Quote

Without new federal support for renewable power, Canada will lose investment and jobs to the US.

The time to act is NOW!

What is ecoENERGY?

The Federal Government announced the ecoENERGY Renewable Power Program (eRPP) in January 2007 to support the deployment of approximately 4,000 MW of new low-impact, renewable electricity projects by March 31, 2011. The eRPP has played a fundamental role in stimulating the deployment of wind energy in Canada by providing a production incentive of 1 cent / kwh produced for 10 years. As of August 2008, almost 10,000 MW of renewable energy projects had registered for the program and contribution agreements had already been signed for almost 1,000 MW of new renewable energy facilities.

Why is the expansion of ecoENERGY critical?

The eRPP has played a fundamental role in stimulating the deployment of wind energy in Canada by providing a production incentive that helps to close the gap between the cost of wind energy and the cost of conventional electricity generation – encouraging provincial governments and utilities to actively seek out wind energy. Expanding the eRPP is critical to maintain and accelerate this impressive growth in Canada’s wind energy industry and to maximize the economic and environmental benefits that result for Canada.

Did you know?

This year, prAna's Natural Power initiative is expected to prevent the emission of almost 17,000 metric tons of greenhouse gases – the equivalent of removing 3,667 cars off the road or protecting 57 square kilometers of forest.
