Job Title: Environmental Project Manager
Location: Greater Toronto Area
Travel requirement: Travel up to 20% of the time for periods of less than a week at a time
Role Purpose
GL Garrad Hassan is the world’s largest independent technical and engineering consultancy for renewable energy. We are the recognised global authority on onshore and offshore wind power and also serve the wave, tidal and solar sectors.
An opportunity exists in our Environmental and Permitting Group for an Environmental and Permitting Project Manager. The primary focus of this role is undertaking and managing environmental studies, environmental assessments and permitting applications in GL Garrad Hassan North America for utility-scale wind energy projects and other renewables.
The Environmental Project Manager will join the team forming the Environment and Permitting Services (EPS) department. The working environment is fast-paced with staff working across a wide range of active projects.
The Environmental Project Manager’s essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Preparing environmental assessment reports for wind energy projects and other renewables;
- Coordinate the overall execution of mandates by making optimal use of our multidisciplinary technical & scientific resources (internal and external) working in a matrix structure;
- Coordinating the work of available resources and external experts in charge of specialized aspects of environmental impact studies;
- Organizing consulting activities with different stakeholder groups, including regulatory agencies, local communities and First Nations;
- Presenting and defending the results of the environmental impact study before government authorities and other concerned bodies;
- Preparing permitting applications;
- Proposing accompanying strategies to mitigate environmental impacts of wind energy projects through both the evaluation process and the development stage;
- Establish and maintain sustainable relationships and good communication with clients, vendors, sub-contractors and other project stakeholders;
- Assist in preparing custom-made proposals fit to each client/project and engage proactively in business development via repeat business;
- Undertake and/or supervise specialized studies in his/her field.
Environmental project managers in the EPS team work closely with the engineering team to jointly develop sustainable projects for a wide range of private developers.
Person Specification
To be successful in this role, and our business, you will need to demonstrate the following qualification, professional expertise and personal attributes
Technical / Professional Expertise
- Knowledge of environmental assessment regulatory frameworks at the federal, provincial and local levels;
- Thorough understanding of permitting processes;
- Environmental study and reporting abilities;
- Project management.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Masters degree in a relevant field;
- Experience with environmental and/or permitting in the wind or renewable energy industry; and/or experience in regulatory affairs;
- B.Sc. in a relevant field such as biology, land planning, law, environmental sciences, environmental engineering;
- 2 years of relevant experience;
