Wind Day

Global Wind Day June 15, 2012

Celebrate Global Wind Day
June 15, 2013

Global Wind Day is a worldwide event that occurs annually on June 15th. It is a day for discovering wind, its power and the possibilities it holds to change our world. It is also a day for discovery of the work that has already begun by pioneers around the world. In more than 80 countries around the world, wind farms are in operation, generating energy from a clean and renewable source.

Global Wind Day is the day when you can visit wind farms, meet experts, attend events and find out everything you want to know about wind energy.

The European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) coordinate Global Wind Day through a network of partners such as CanWEA. On June 15th, thousands of public events are organized all over the world and right here in Canada.

Join us on June 15th to celebrate the power of wind energy!

What happened last year?

More than 230 events were organized in 40 countries all around the globe last year. Canada celebrated with the launch of the first ever Power of Wind Blog Contest with bursary prizes. CanWEA invited students entering or in post-secondary institutions to submit a 300-word blog on the subject of wind energy. Students wrote about what wind energy means to them and why they think it should be a part of our future energy mix. Take a look at last year’s winning entries by visiting www.friendsofwind.ca.

Additional Global Wind Day celebrations included turbine climbs for media personalities, an event for supporters of wind in Toronto, Ontario and the grand opening of Enbridge's Greenwich Wind Project in the Township of Dorion, Ontario. The Greenwich Wind Farm will generate approximately 100 MW of electricity, enough clean, renewable energy to power around 30,000 average Canadian homes.

Find out more about other events that were held around the globe in the 2012 Global Wind Day Report.
