Wind Day

Célébrez la Journée mondiale de l'énergie éolienne
June 15, 2012
Global Wind Day is a worldwide event that occurs annually on June 15th. It is a day for discovering wind, its power and the possibilities it holds to change our world. It is also a day for discovery of the work that has already begun by pioneers around the world. In more than 75 countries around the world, wind farms are in operation, generating energy from a clean and renewable source.
Global Wind Day is the day when you can visit wind farms, meet experts, attend events and find out everything you want to know about wind energy.
The European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) coordinate the Global Wind Day through a network of partners such as CanWEA. On June 15th, thousands of public events are organized all over the world.
Wind in Mind: A New International Wind Energy Photo Competition
In the run-up to Global Wind Day on June 15th – the annual day promoting the power of the wind around the world – photographers are invited to let their imaginations take the lead and show wind energy technology in a new way, in line with the competition title, "Wind in Mind".
The six winners, who will receive a €1,000 Amazon voucher or one of five €250 vouchers, will be chosen by an expert jury and announced on Global Wind Day 15 June. All the winning pictures will be displayed outdoors in the EU area of Brussels.
The overall winning photo will also become part of an online professional photography collection, www.hardrainproject.com, and be published in renewable energy newspaper 'Recharge' and in the European wind energy industry magazine Wind Directions.
What happened last year?
More than 230 events were organized in 40 countries all around the globe last year. In Canada, a tour of DMI Industries' wind turbine manufacturing plant in Ontario was among scheduled events on June 15th, 2011. A tour of the nearby Mohawk Point Wind Farm was also scheduled as part of the festivities that day. The wind farm is owned by International Power and features six 1.65 MW turbines. "Wind energy's growing contribution to Ontario's electricity supply is making Ontario a leader in green energy production, and bringing jobs and economic opportunities to local communities," said the Canadian Wind Energy Association.
